In an announcement that is sure to annoy many football fans in the United Kingdom, the BBC have stated that they have not obtained the rights to cover the African Cup of Nations at the Group or Quarter Final stages.

The response to the question whether BBC would be showing the action was;

Unfortunately, the BBC has not secured the full rights for the 2010 African Cup of Nations.

The entire tournament will be screened live on British Eurosport but the semi-finals and the final are scheduled to be live on the BBC.

If British viewers have access to Eurosport, they will be able to see every minute of the action but do not despair if you do not.

If you do not have access to Eurosport but would be happy to watch online, it is possible to watch every game via the Eurosport Player.

This site has not used this service before so is unable to offer any recommendation for it but at £3.99 for a monthly pass, a price less than the average cost of two pints, you can watch every game.

Admittedly, a good number of the games will take place during 9-5 working hours and the semi’s and final are meant to be on the BBC but it does seem like a low risk purchase.

Eurosport Player

The opening match of the tournament takes place on January 10th and features host nation Angola playing Mali in Group A. The game has a local kick-off time of 2000, meaning it will have a 1900 kick-off time for British viewers.

Are you looking forward to the African Cup of Nations?
