Football royalty at the top in Group C
It couldn’t be tighter at the top of Group C in the Champions League.
AC Milan are currently top of the table but they are in front of Real Madrid by the head to head comparison and lead Marseille by a single point. All three of these sides will consider they have a great opportunity to make the last 16 of the Champions but even FC Zurich could sneak it to the knock-out stages if results go their way.
Much of the attention in this group has been on Real Madrid’s galacticos and how Kaka would fare against his former club AC Milan. Marseille are very much in the hunt but their 6 points have come from two victories over FC Zurich. With games against the big two left, the French side need to shock the big boys to break the status quo.

To stand a chance, the French side need to take something from the San Siro in Match day 5:
AC Milan v Marseille
Real Madrid v FC Zurich
It is likely that Real Madrid will defeat Zurich at home which would see the Spanish giants move on to 10 points. If Marseille were to lose to AC Milan, they would be out of the knock-out round contention and the big two would be safely through with a game to spare.
When the draw was made, Marseille fans probably felt they would end up in the Europa League so it wont be a major disappointment or upset if that happens to be the case.
This round of fixtures will probably come too soon to welcome Cristiano Ronaldo back to Champions League football but the player has at least returned to training. He may feature in the final round of fixtures but if the top two places are sewn up, there may be no need to risk the star as he returns to full fitness.
Will the big two take their place as expected in the last 16?
