Boo-hoo Arsene, boo-hoo!
Arsene Wenger doesn’t always have a good view of incidents that happen on the park but he seems to have a view on a refereeing issue this season.
Arsenal are currently top of the English Premier League but the French boss thinks his team haven’t got there with the support of penalties from referees. Given the amount of play that Arsenal have in the opposition box, it could be argued that they are likely to get penalties.
However, Wenger believes his team are being punished for Eduardo’s dive against Celtic in the Champions League.
Uefa may have given the Croatian internationalist a reprieve but to most observers, it looked a blatant dive. It wasn’t going to change the course of the tie but it was a pretty poor show from the player and his smirk at gaining the penalty was certainly questionable.
However, Eduardo was not the first player to dive and he certainly wont be the last. If referees are letting themselves be swayed by preconceived conceptions about players, it is a dangerous road to be going down.
It has also been a good while since we heard Arsene make these sort of comments to the press. Has the fact that Arsenal have got their mojo back led to Wenger finding his voice again?
Has Arsene got a point?

“It has also been a good while since we heard Arsene make these sort of comments to the press. Has the fact that Arsenal have got their mojo back led to Wenger finding his voice again?”
Of course, mate. These types of accusations are bound to be taken more serious when coming from a manager and team doing well. Rather than a bitter manager that has been on a bad recent run. Fantastic timing by Wenger. He is only saying what the rest of us Gooners think and know. It is as clear as day to see we are being punished by the Scottish FA’s pathetic antics and the “impartial” media. Whether the media choose to give his recent comments as much air time as that tedious clip of Eduardo diving is a completely different matter. Three nailed on pens in the last 2 games, how many did we get? Says it all.
Cheers Shava.
Arsene, as you say, may have timed this perfectly and he has also acted to protect his squad. Okay, Owen Coyle has retracted his post-match comments about the Gallas challenge but that could easily have been blown up to be the major story of the week (well, aside Tevez and Neville acting like 6 year olds). If anyone felt that this decision was one that favoured Arsenal, Wenger has been quick to point out where his side have not gotten the awards.
Its a far more lively Arsene Wenger than has been seen in a few years…and that can only be good for the English Premier League.
the pathetic fact to consider is that no matter how blatant eduardo may have dived, his is nowhere near what we have seen from serial divers like rooney, gerrad the heights scaling pederson(blackburn) one last season v arsenal, yet the media in wiered ways sought to make it the example. I think uefa rightly saw sence in that this was a clear scape goating and let eduardo off. if indeed the media was right and unbiased, surely the least they could have done was to in fact excuse eduardo – given his record compared to the roonies, owens, drogbas. you can accuse him of that one incident, what about the other lot?
Again, fair point Rafi – if every dive was given the same focus and attention you would think fair point but that has certainly not been the case.
eduardo never asked for the penalty despite going down, where as wayne rooney can be brought down while moving at top speed and spin round, eye contact with the ref, both hands in the air,and be celebrating the award of the penalty all before he has hit the ground, amazing
to be honest i do think some referees are going into the arsenal games, with a preconcieved notion, of not giving us a penalty unless it would make them look foolish not to, but that’s to be expected after what eduardo did against celtic, lost alot of respect for dudu that day… as far as wenger being more lively, it may just be that i notice it more cos im an arsenal fan, but he never seems to be out of the press, he;s has an opinion on absolutely everything and is only too willing to share it with who’ll ever listen… sometimes i wish he’d just concentrate on arsenal and try and stay out the media, but, we are top of the league (til at least tomorrow) so he gets a repreive..lol
Don’t you mean Eduardos ‘PERCEIVED’ dive.
I refuse to believe he dived. But the furore the media caused has only cost us three penalties this week did we go on and on about it? NO!
And now Gallas is portrayed as Charles Manson so he will be booked ad lib in the future, guaranteed..
Everytime we get a modicom of success the bias (racist) media try to bring us down. Go concentrate on the English divers, the English ‘Up yours’ gestures, the English hair pullers and leave Arsenal alone or celebrate with us the way Arsene has changed football as it is played in England today. Hell he might even produce the bulk of Englands future world cup sides for you.
The English media are a sick myopic bunch.
Up the Gunners!!!
Hi Willo, thanks for that.
We’re happy with our take on the Eduardo incident but we definitely agree that the media have let so many others away with murder who have behaved in a similar manner….and that is just not on.
Is Gallas being portrayed as Charlie Manson? Does this make the Gunners a family club? Does it make Theo Walcott Kasabian – he has the pace for a great getaway!
Do you think Wenger gets the credit for what he has achieved at Arsenal? If not now, do you think he’ll get his credit ten or twenty years down the line?
eduardo dived, and theres no point in refusing to belive it, it was as clear as day, everyone who has seen it knows it was a dive and to suggest otherwise is truly myopic… you cant criticise other clubs or their players or the media for that matter when you cant take off your arsenal glasses and admit when an arsenal players does something he shouldnt of… also imo i honestly feel that if it wasnt for what happened with denilson against everton, we would have put the ball out of play the other day against bolton
Myopic was my word!
I admit the rose coloured glasses are on my dressing table but I did not need them in the Eduardo case. It was at the least 50/50 with no intent. As for Gallas, I admit, he fouled Davies. Mr.Wiley missed it. The edict fron eufa is that the ball should only be kicked out for head injuries in that situation. After a laughable period of play acting that abused the fair play ethic they changed the rules . Davies brains might be in his foot but it still can’t be counted as a head injury. But once again Arsenal are slated for being unsportsman like. It’s a media mantra.
I think Wenger receives wide acclaim for his achievements but mostly at a fan level. Rival supporters, probably not S*urs ones, are all over various blogs saying what a wonderful brand of football he has been producing. This is quite an rarity to receive praise from these quarters but I think they are accolades Arsene deserves. Even when Man Utd WERE were playing tidy football Fergie failed to get the feedback that Wenger does. The papers, with an agenda, maybe nothing more than to sell copies, take great pleasure in being negative about most things Arsenal. It does annoy me. After the treatment Fabregas received from Bolton over the three games who is Coyne to say Gallas was guilty of assault. He did withdraw his comment which was good but the initial hypochrisy was blatent over reaction and fuelled hte fires.
All the media generated news at the start of the season was about how Arsenal had financial problems, a weak team and Arsene should go. You could apply that to most clubs in the Premiership at this moment except Arsenal, Chelsea and maybe Citeh. The rest have one or other of those problems, some both.
Not far off the mark were they, the great British media ? Cough.
Also please tell the newspapers Madeleine is dead eveywhere except in England. Poor wee thing.
Have a great day.
