Suspended for vital Liverpool clash
With a 3-0 defeat at the Emirates halting an impressive unbeaten run for Aston Villa, the Midlands club will be looking to bounce back quickly against Liverpool.
The two sides have already met this season with Villa grabbing a massive 3-1 win at Anfield and will have confidence in doing the same again. If they are to do the double over the Scousers though, they will have to do so without Ashley Young.
Young picked up his fifth booking of the season and with the booking amnesty a few days away, the player is forced out of Villa’s next game, the home test against Liverpool.
One reason the player may have decided a dive was suitable was because the game took place at the Emirates. As Eduardo has shown this season, taking a blatant dive is not necessarily out of order, with the later climb-down from Uefa vindicating the forward’s decision to cheat.
Perhaps this convinced Ashley Young to go down un-touched.
Villa have a better squad than they have had in recent years so Martin O’Neill will be able to reshuffle his pack but this is the sort of game where Young could make all the difference.
The player as well may also suffer in the long-term.
If Young holds serious ambitions about playing in the World Cup, doing the business against the perceived big teams in the league will make him far more attractive to Fabio Capello.
Young may have harmed his own, and his teams, chances with a moment of madness.
Villa fans, can you beat Liverpool without Ashley?
