Harry Redknapp is always one to give a cheeky comment or two to the press boys, ‘Arry plays the game and knows the buttons to press but when discussing his latest transfer moves, one name came out of left-field.

There have been some strange moves this transfer window but we nearly choked on our Coco Pops when we saw the name of Peter Sutcliffe (aye, we’re not buying that name change thing he wanted after the conviction), The Yorkshire Ripper, in association with Spurs.

One thing that would count against the signing of Sutcliffe would be his lack of experience in the top flight and indeed, the Champions League. Spurs have an ideal opportunity to press on this season and need to be bringing in players that will strengthen their top four credentials.

On the positive side, Sutcliffe would probably be able to play on a more regular basis than Ledley King or Johnny Woodgate. That aside, and when you consider all that unpleasantness with females, it would be best for everyone concerned if Redknapp doesn’t take a chance on the 64 year old.

Mind you, if Spurs did confirm their interest, it would probably galvanise Manchester City to make a late bid for Sutcliffe.

Then again, it’s not really as if City need any more defensive midfielders.

On a slightly less traumatic note, Spurs have swooped to bring ex Arsenal greeting faced captain William Gallas to White Hart Lane. This now sees Gallas at his third London club after spells with Chelsea and the Gooners and no matter where Gallas has been, he has managed himself and his opinions brilliantly.

No wait, he has portrayed himself to be a git at every opportunity with the thinly veiled threat (obviously later denied) to score an own-goal if played by Chelsea being one of his lowest moments.

It will be a hard one for Spurs fans – one of their best moments in recent years came with the sight of Gallas sitting on the half-way line in a huff, angry at the realisation that Arsenal had blown their best chance of being in a title race.

That’s all change now as the Tottenham fans will have to get right behind their new man….but there is always room for redemption. After all…..Peter Sutcliffe did say he was sorry (its at the end of this video…but its worth watching!!)

Sutcliffe apologises

When talking about footballers, the comment that their brains are located in their feet tends to be a backhanded compliment. On recent form, you could probably argue that Peter Crouch’s brain lies elsewhere than his feet but they certainly don’t reside in his head.

It has to be said that Crouchy has been punching considerably above his weight with Abbey Clancy but it seems as though the English hit-man doesn’t have the brains to realise he was on to a good thing. Which has led to him carrying out a lot of begging and pleading and no doubt a whole lot of spending!

Anyways, TV funnyman Robert Florence has penned a poem about Crouch, which you can read below:

Hamburger and Steak

“What have you done?”
That is the cry you hear
She is beautiful
And he looks like a golf club with an overbite
Her name is Abbey
And just like Westminster Abbey
Is better
When an organ’s inside

That’s what they say
It’s not me being sexist
It’s them that say that
(The Scientologists)
Oh, Peter.
You look like a grief-stricken lamp-post
Why have hamburger
When you have steak at home?

Admittedly, the hamburger is younger
And has bigger tits.
That’s what they say
(The Scientologists)
And admittedly, a steak that lets you
do it up the arse
would be pretty rare.
Maybe medium-rare.

Fool, go to Abbey on your knees
Which would make you only 8 foot 2
And beg for her mercy
That Liverpudlian Angel
That goddess of the North
And ask her for forgiveness
And maybe ask her if she’s up for a threesome
Actually, no
Strike that
Just say sorry
In giraffe language

You look like a tapeworm in a suit
You look like a mobile phone mast with a toupee
You look like a steamrollered E.T.
I stood a bread bin on its side
And it looked like your face
So I shoved my boot into it
It made me feel a bit better
But all my bread is fucked
You are very selfish

“On ‘is ‘ead!”
They shout.
(The fans*)
Yes, ON ‘IS ‘EAD.
ON ‘IS OWN ‘EAD BE IT.
Get it?
THE END

*The Scientologists

We like that poem, it maybe says everything we think about what Crouchy has done….

If you want to read more of Robert’s work and see what he and his writing partner Iain Connell are up to, you can visit their website here!

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has made it clear that he would like to keep Argentine international Javier Mascherano at Anfield but the player has suggested it would be best to move on. That’s the nature of football and with Barcelona sniffing around the player; it looks as though he will be on his way from Merseyside soon.

The current chat and rumours suggest that a fee of around 15 million euros and Alexander Hleb will be coming to Liverpool to take Mascherano to the Camp Nou.

Obviously the two players are not involved in a like for like swap but we’re not sure if Hleb is what Liverpool need this season. Hleb has always struck us as a luxury player and not one you would turn to week in and week out to fire your team.

There is no shame in not becoming a first team regular at Barcelona, Hleb was a strong part of the squad that won the treble and he has definitely been a major player for Stuttgart where he spent last season on loan.

With Joe Cole coming to Anfield for free, Liverpool have already picked up a player that create goals out of nothing but can’t turn it on every single game. The fact that these wingers / attacking midfielders tend to flit in and out of games and struggle for consistency is perhaps a reason to have two of them in your squad but we’re not sure if Liverpool would be better off with the cash to enable them to strengthen other areas.

A lot depends on any proposed takeover of Liverpool but if this does not take place before the close of the window, it may not provide any great assistance to Roy Hodgson. Depending on the flexibility of Barcelona (who have their own financial concerns), straight cash may be a better option than the choice of cash plus Hleb.

Do you think Hleb would be of any benefit to Liverpool?

James Corden World Cup Live really is an abomination of a show. When you consider it features the fantastic Abbey Clancy, it takes some going to make us think the show was poor.

One thing that Corden has really proved in the past year is that Ruth Jones probably deserves most of the credit for Gavin and Stacey because everything else that Corden has touched has turned to diarrhoea.

Doing a live show reacting to things that have just happened isn’t always the best scenario to make laughs from but even with that in mind, it is difficult to

Trying to grab laughs over the “USA wins 1-1” headline and completely missing the point of the front page, which mentions the fact it was a tie, shows he is a rather humourless and desperate comic.

Then mocking Germany for missing a chance leaving them with just the 3-0 win compared to England’s 1-1 draw, well….it’s a bit silly isn’t it?

The rotund actor/ writer / singer may be at number one in the charts at the moment but general opinion about the song is that it’s fairly rubbish as well.

We’re sure James won’t be caring, he’ll be rolling in the money at the end of the tournament and any exposure is always going to leave him with some new fans but we cant help but this he needs to hide away for a bit.

Dissing Patrick Stewart at an award show is one thing but struggling on national television a few nights a week is not the sort of thing that is going to leave a positive impression.

Then again, the Friday night show is set to have Noel Gallagher and Russell Brand on so we can only hope that Corden takes a step back and lets they two rant and rave about the football. Go on James, make it so!

The news that the Brazillian referee Carlos Simon for the England v USA game has spent time learning English swear words has been taken by the English media as a definite sign that the world is against England in their bid to win a second World Cup.

A booking and post-match warning for Wayne Rooney for swearing against the Platinum All-Stars has sent the nation into a tizzy, with concerns about Rooney’s temperament reaching boiling point and perhaps exploding over. It seems as though there is always a desire to have a scapegoat in waiting for any English defeat and the fears that Rooney may get sent off is building along that route.

Now…let’s all take a moment to step back – the match is England versus the United States of America. There is a lot of water between the two countries but there is (nearly) a common language.

They use sidewalk, we use pavement.
They use color, we use colour.

And so on and so forth but you know something, we both use near enough the same swear words.

If you were a referee taking charge of a match between two foreign nations which have a common language, would you not take some time to pick up on the language that you might find on the football field?

At the moment, we are feeling sorry for poor old Tim Howard in the nets for the USA with his tourettes. Surely he is at more risk than Wayne Rooney if a referee knows the words but doesn’t understand the context?

That’s a bit light-hearted but in reality, the uproar and fury that has met the news this ref has taken the time to do some research prior to the game indicates how World Cup fever can affect people!

Lets just relax and not put any further pressure on our big game players…..the refs are out there to do the job and if he deserves castigation, lets do it post-match…not prior to a ball being kicked!

Naming an initial 30 man squad was always going to lead to disappointment for some players but most of the 7 players who were left would have had an inkling.

The omission of Theo Walcott is of interest, especially when you consider his shock inclusion in the 2006 World Cup squad.

Back then, English manager Sven Goran Eriksson believed that taking Walcott to the tournament would bring benefit to England for years to come but thats clearly not the case.

Fabio Capello is not a manager to worry beyond the current tournament. The approval of Gareth Barry’s fitness, if not for the initial game, indicates that Capello has his eye on the later part of the tournament but clearly he feels the inclusion of Barry is worth the wait.

Should Shaun Wright-Phillips and Aaron Lennon have been included in the squad? On their day, there are no doubts that the players have the ability to terrorise defenders and turn games but more so than Theo Walcott or Adam Johnson?

You only have to think how Walcott came off the bench to bring Arsenal back into the game in their Emirates game against Barcelona. Add that to the hat-trick he grabbed in Croatia which signalled the true starting point of Capello’s reign and you can say that Walcott had a great shout of getting onto the plane.

The same with Johnson, who fitted in well to life in the top flight at Eastlands but clearly Capello felt there was more to be gained other players being taken along.

Only four strikers means that Darren Bent has been omitted from the squad, despite comfortably outscoring Defoe, Crouch and Emile Heskey.

Goalkeepers: Joe Hart (Manchester City), David James (Portsmouth), Robert Green (West Ham).

Defenders: Jamie Carragher (Liverpool), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Ledley King (Tottenham), John Terry (Chelsea), Matthew Upson (West Ham), Stephen Warnock (Aston Villa).

Midfielders: Gareth Barry (Manchester City), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Aaron Lennon (Tottenham), James Milner (Aston Villa), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Manchester City).

Forwards: Peter Crouch (Tottenham), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), Emile Heskey (Aston Villa), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United).

Dropped from the 30 man squad:
Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Leighton Baines (Everton), Michael Dawson (Tottenham), Scott Parker (West Ham), Darren Bent (Sunderland), Adam Johnson (Manchester City), Tom Huddleston (Tottenham)

Do you feel strongly that Fabio has got it right or wrong?

In the summer transfer window, it needs one big move to take place to start a cycle that sees a lot of players moving in major deals. Barcelona have kicked it all off early by signing David Villa and this is sure to have repercussions for the existing forwards at the Camp Nou.

Most under threat will be Zlatan Ibrahomivic who despite notching over twenty goals, including a winner against Real Madrid, has not become a fan favourite. Although the silky style of Barcelona is evident, the team works extremely hard and at times, youngsters like Bojan or Pedro offer a bit more than the Swedish striker.

This means he may be on his way out of Spain after just one season. After having played for Juventus and Inter Milan, a move to England may be the preferred option for the striker and Chelsea showed an interest in him last season.

Carlo Ancelotti knows all about the forward from the Milan derbies and time in Serie A and perhaps sees him as a foil to Didider Drogba. Chelsea are still in contract talks with Anelka and it may be that the arrival of Ibrahimovic lessens the need to keep the Frenchman.

Various newspaper reports are also citing the fact that Roman Abramovic is looking to make a marquee signing this summer and of course, the Champions League remains on his wish-list.

Newspapers are also linking Manchester United with an interest in the player but we just cant see it. Ibra doesn’t strike us as the type of player that Alex Ferguson would utilise, especially not after the flop of Dimitar Berbatov. You can also throw in the financial problems that United have.

Manchester City of course would be an entirely different matter, the money would be no issue but would Ibrahimovic settle for Europa League action?

Where do you think Zlatan will be playing next summer?

No sooner has Avram Grant moved out of Portsmouth and started looking up the addresses of massage parlours in the vicinity of West Ham United, the candidates who want the Pompey job have started popping up.

Who can blame them?

It is a tough market at the moment and even though Portsmouth are not what you would consider to be in a reasonable position, for someone wanting to gain entry into the world of management, what better way than with this club?

If the new manager fails, there will be many people who will say, what chance did they have anyway?

If they are a success, they will get a great amount of praise and credit, so you can see why it is a slightly attractive proposition to many ex-footballers.

However, it may be of interest to one current player as well!

Pompey goalkeeper David James has expressed an interest in the role.

You have to consider that this might be something that will really appeal to Portsmouth. After all, if James was to become player-manager of the club, they could pay him once for doing two jobs, which would be a great financial saving. This is the sort of thing that Pompey need to consider so go on, give it to David and save money.

This money saving tip was brought to you by WeKnowFA!

Whether David James is the right man that Portsmouth need at the helm is an entirely different matter and it may be that the club needs some experience in charge. And of course, Portsmouth will want someone in charge quickly and to start making plans and David is a little bit bust over the next month or so!

We like David James and we hope he stays in the game after he gives up his goalkeeping gloves but whether the Pompey manager’s job is right for him, we have our doubts!

The English squad should be focussing on the task ahead for the World Cup but it is inevitable that club issues will be in some players minds.

The past season has been a terrible year for Liverpool and Stevie Gerrard has suffered more than most. Being a Liverpudlian, he knows how the Liverpool fans feel and the stress of a poor season will be weighing on his mind.

There is growing talk that the midfielders relations with boss Rafa Benitez has become strained and a parting of the ways may be looming.

There will be no shortage of clubs interested in Gerrard but you have to wonder where he will be likely to end up? Chelsea were strongly rumoured to be interested in the player a few years back but Gerrard decided to stay at Anfield in the hope of Liverpool regaining the league title.

Whether Chelsea are still interested in the player or Gerrard fancies a move to London remains to be seen.

If there is a top class player on the market, you know that Manchester City will be interested and they could certainly afford the fee Liverpool would want but would Gerrard want to go to City?

A move to Manchester, with the rivalries between Liverpool and Manchester may not make this switch too appealing to the player so you could probably rule that out.

Therefore, a move abroad could be of interest to Gerrard but with Barcelona talking about bringing Cesc Fabregas back to the Camp Nou, you can’t think the Catalan club would have an interest.

Real Madrid may be looking for a new boss again and if the rumours about Jose Mourinho are true, his knowledge and admiration for the player may see a bid coming from the Spanish capital.

Do you think Gerrard will be saying adios to Anfield this summer?

Okay, the remnants of the 2009/10 season is finally seeping away…onto the World Cup! We’re still three weeks away, the final squads have yet to be whittled down and we won’t lie, we’re not in full World Cup mode yet.

There is the small matter of the WeKnowFA end of season break to come before the World Cup begins but we need to start turning our mind to matters in South Africa.

What better way to do this than by considering some football kits and threads.

Whether it is for holiday clothes or for backing your boys, there are some great kits available for the World Cup, most of which have been kicking around for a while.

So…we’re going to be taking a close look at the Umbro World Champions Collection range, which the company have launched with a mighty large fanfare. We all know Umbro are the company behind the current England kit and it’s tailored look is adding a touch of class to proceedings.

It won’t surprise you to learn they have retained this stylish look in the Umbro World Champions Collection range but they have also managed to mix football up with two of our other passions, art and football!

First up, as you would expect, is the England top with WeKnowFA favourite, Abbey Clancy!

Good old Peter Crouch…Crouchy is the robot, Crouchy is the robot nananana! Haha, if Crouchy nets at the World Cup, you know how you’ll be celebrating!

There’s also a good chance the cameras will be panning to his glamorous girlfriend so a Crouchy strike is win:win.

That aside, the top looks good – something a bit different you can wear to show you are backing the boys without being as in your face as a standard football top. We’re not saying you should wear it anywhere smart or formal but it does take football clothing up a notch!

What do you think of the top?
