Player says he won’t celebrate if he scores
Given the shot that Beckham put in for AC Milan in the dying moments of their match on Sunday, it is a bit presumptuous of the player to assume he would manage a shot on target but Beckham has vowed to not celebrate if he scores on his return.
This has become the in thing for returning players and the diplomatic response of players like Larsson, Law and Adebayor celebrating with quiet restraint and integrity. Hold on, one of they players did in fact celebrate scoring against his former club.
Anyways, Beckham was asked by the Inside United magazine his thoughts on the upcoming matches and he said;
“I do not think I would celebrate. I respect the supporters and the club.”
“To me they are the best fans in the world and the support they gave me week in, week out was incredible. Nothing will ever better that.”
It is perhaps not something that will impress his current supporters but Beckham has consistently spoken positively about his time at Old Trafford. It is easy to forget the time when Becks was Public Enemy Number One in England and the United fans stood behind them.
Yes, there are some United fans who don’t support the English national team but the Red Devils were pretty united in their backing of their man and Beckham is reciprocal of that.
It is good to see that there is some level of respect in football but that won’t extend to hoping that the other team goes through. Some United fans may be happy to see Beckham score at Old Trafford but only if the home team are cruising and certain to go through.
Similarly, Beckham may not celebrate if he strikes but if it is the winning goal, no one will be happier than the former United and Real Madrid man.
