So much at stake at Old Trafford
We all know that the two recent Tottenham Hotspur home wins have been massive for Manchester United and the title run-in. Not only did they see Chelsea and Arsenal drop points, it may help puncture Manchester City’s bid for the top four.
At the moment though, the best thing about these results is that they will have focused the minds of the Man United players of how important today’s Old Trafford clash is. Spurs have a diabolical record at United’s home ground in recent years, without a victory in 21 years!
Last season, Spurs held a 2-0 lead at Old Trafford but even that was not enough as the Red Devils roared back in the second half to win 5-2. As usual, opposition fans will say that United got the rub of the green from the ref that day but when you are playing a team with such attacking power, the game is never really over.
And if Spurs needed any further reminder of that, the late late show which defeated Manchester City last weekend in the derby should be reverberating in the minds of the Spurs camp. When it gets to the business end of the season, there are few teams in the world that are as effective as Manchester United.
For us, the advantage for the run-in still lies with Chelsea and United HAVE to win all three games. There is no reason why United cannot pick up all 9 points available to them but when they are also reliant on Chelsea dropping points, with the Blues also have three winnable games, it remains out of their hands.
If Spurs were to grab anything at Old Trafford, it would be take a miracle for United to win the league…so it is all set up for a lunchtime cracker in Manchester.
Can Spurs make it three big weeks on the trot?
