Manchester United keep title dream alive

Final part of the game was scintillating

Some of the early weekend kick-offs take a while to get properly started and this game is a perfect example of that. The final half an hour of the Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur game was phenomenal, both sides tearing at each other as though their season depended on a positive outcome.

It did, which makes the opening hour slightly disappointing but with an ending like that, it would be churlish to moan too much.

United took the lead through a Ryan Giggs penalty and at that point, no one could complain at the home side being in the lead. Spurs simply never turned up and their performance was a pale shadow when compared to their victories over Arsenal and Chelsea of late.

However, the opening goal and the arrival of Aaron Lennon revitalised Spurs and the London club came to life. They shocked Old Trafford and threatened to kill off United’s title hopes when Ledley King powered home from a corner to make it 1-1.

At this point, both teams were slugging it out for the crucial third goal and it fell to United with Nani cooly chipping it over Gomes to fire United to the top of the league.

The result was put beyond doubt when United were given another penalty which the Welsh Wizard duly dispatched for his second goal of the game. United sit top of the table, a position they are more than used to and now just have the two games to get through.

The goal difference is now down to 1 but Chelsea have the game in hand to account for the two points they sit behind United. Today was a crucial win for United but the league is still in Chelsea’s hands, if they do their job, they’ll be safe.

United fans, confident of taking the league for the fourth year in a row?
