Wayne at the centre of everything in Hull
Manchester United were way below their best at the KC Stadium but when you have a world class talent like Wayne Rooney, anything can happen.
As so often happens, Hull would have thought they were doing well to get to half-time still equal when Rooney popped up to break the deadlock. The striker has been out of sorts in recent weeks as United have struggled but he is always likely to pop up when Alex Ferguson needs him most.
Where Rooney isn’t the best though is with defensive duties and it was his error that allowed Hull to get back into the match. A short back-pass caused panic in the United box eventually leading to Rafael bundling over Jozy Altidore.
The scores were level as Fagan struck the ball home and for a while, it looked as though Fagan was going to be responsible for Hull picking the pockets of United.
Just when Phil Brown was contemplating congratulating himself on a point with a stint at the tanning salon, Rooney was instrumental in United regaining the lead. He took a pass from Ryan Giggs and drove the ball across goal where Andy Dawson could only turn the ball into his own net.
Rooney was again involved a few minutes later when Dimitar Berbatov gave United a clear lead that saw the Red Devils cut Chelsea’s lead at the top of the table to two points.
The teams at the top are not finding form at the moment but winning when playing badly is the mark of Champions.
United fans, can you see the signs of improvement?
