Rangers hit 7 and are seven points clear at New Year

Since his return to the club, Walter Smith has been criticised for the negative tactics displayed his team. In the past couple of weeks though, he has been sending his team out to play in a fast attacking manner.
Three goals at Tannadice.
Six goals at home versus Motherwell.
Four goals at Easter Road.
Seven goals at home versus Dundee United.
20 in four games? That is fantastic scoring by anyone’s standards.
All of this has given Rangers a seven point lead over Celtic, albeit having played a game more. With a trip to Celtic Park to come on Sunday, avoiding defeat on the 3rd of January would see Rangers sitting rather pretty at the top of the league.
The fifth goal for Rangers went again to Kris Boyd, allowing the Rangers striker to take the lead at the top of the all-time SPL goal scoring record. The sixth Rangers goal scored saw Boyd score his fifth goal of the evening.
This is the second time in Boyd’s career that he has scored FIVE against Dundee United, which is frankly astounding and worthy of praise
Of course, the SPL is just over a decade old and it doesn’t take into account all of Henrik Larsson’s league goals in Scotland.
That is not to downplay Boyd’s achievement, he deserves every credit for his goal scoring exploits but at the moment, Boyd cannot seriously claim to have scored more Scottish top flight goals than Henrik Larsson.
On this run of form though, if he remains at Rangers at the end of the season, he will have destroyed Larsson’s overall domestic league record. Rangers are likely to play Dundee United two more times in the SPL this season, so Boyd will be considering that as being worth about 7 goals at least!
Yet another tremendous win for Rangers, with the red card for Kenny Miller being the only dark spot for the club. Whether Rangers appeal the red card to allow Miller to play remains to be seen but on this form, will the loss of Miller harm them?
They managed to score four times whilst down to ten men.
On this run of form, Rangers will not have to hire a bus for the trip to Celtic Park, they will be able to fly there.
As for Dundee United though, what can you say?
Peter Houston would be as well not turning up for work tomorrow. In fact, the result was so bad that a friend of WeKnowSFA felt moved enough to say…
You’d think that Dundee United had appointed Jimmy Calderwood to be in charge of this match!
A bad night for United but a historic night for Kris Boyd.
