Celtic at Aberdeen is marred by weakened team jibes

Could McGhee offer up humble pie to many people post match?

WeKnowSFA - Celtic

It is surprising to see that Tony Mowbray has not been criticised for fielding a weakened team this season. After all, Lee Naylor has made a number of starts for Celtic and yet there has been no uproar in the media about this. Where is the integrity of the SPL if players like Lee Naylor are able to get a starting place in Celtic’s line-up?

Yes, the build-up to this match has been shifted from the typical pre-match build up by the controversy surrounding the team that Mark McGhee may select to face Celtic. Aberdeen have a cup replay against Raith Rovers on Tuesday night and with the Dons intent on reaching Hampden, McGhee has promised to consider his squad carefully to get the most from both games.

The Aberdeen team against Celtic is expected to line up: Leighton, McKimmie, Rougvie, Diamond, Mulgrew, Jarvie, Cooper, Stark, Jess, McDougall, Stavrum

Okay, we don’t know – all of this may be a ruse by McGhee, it may be a way of firing up those who start, it may be an attempt to give all three points to Celtic to aid their title bid. We will hold off until post game before we decide if the Dons boss was right or wrong.

And he won’t be the first boss to select the wrong team in the eyes of the fans.

Tell that to Tony Mowbray.

Many punters were dismayed to see Morten Rasmussen dropped to the bench for Wednesday’s game against Hearts but a 2-0 win showed that Mowbray was justified, especially as the returning Marc Antoine Fortune grabbed the crucial second goal.

Then again though, you would have expected Ra Ra Rasmussen to notch at least one of the chances that £65 a week man Robbie Keane missed. Wait, it is £65,000 a week isn’t it? Keane looked like a man who was trying too hard but if he can refind his composure, the goals will surely flow.

He had the beating of the Hearts defence on Wednesday evening and only the assured touch of the assistant referee prevented Keane from having more chances.

Yes, not only has Keane taken over Scott McDonald’s number, he has taken over the one-to-one working relationship with the linesman that the Australian striker had.

It is hard to predict the line-up for Celtic at the moment due to injuries and the new additions settling but you can expect them to start with Boruc and then a back four of Caddis, Thompson, Rogne and Braafheid. The Polish stopper has the experience but the rest certainly do not.

As for the more forward positions you can expect Brown and N’Guemo to be in there, Keane, McGeady and Fortune too. The last space in the line-up will likely be filled with loan signing Diomansy Kamara but Mowbray may opt to spring a surprise in his line up.

If Celtic win, they will be five points behind Rangers and the Ibrox club have a testing day on Sunday versus Hibs. An away win is crucial for the hoops to keep their title dreams alive and to prove the Scottish media right about McGhee.

Celtic will cut the gap on Shame F.C. They will beat the dons fair and square, regardless of who does what, be it the ref, linesman or Mcghee.

I fancy the Hibees to take all 3 points against Shame F.C but not without some questionable decisions and controversy as Shame will be clutching at straws and frustrated at being helpless to see their lead slip further, as will the officials.

“We Know ” where the league is heading now.

  2. Quagmire says:

Bold statement considering your 8 points behind and 18 goals less to the good. Something that Fortune obviously agrees with as he stated that Rangers are beginning to crack and that they will win the title, guess that’s the team talk dispensed with for Sunday then.

As for ‘Shame’ rhus, what were your thoughts on your fellow supporters disrupting yet another minutes silence for the war dead? Or was it ‘Juan Ghuy’ again.

  3. Rhussmussen says:

Celtic still have it all to do, granted. But this is a vastly improved team to the one that started the season. Meanwhile Dignity F.C have stood still and are beginning to feel the heat, as are their well behaved and dignified fans.

The title race is far from over. It is plain as day that Celtic have a more technically gifted and creative side. With 15 or so games left can you honestly say you are not bricking it?

As for minutes silence (or not as the case may be). That has been highlighted twice now in the press. Where have the reporters been, week in week out when the “good name ” of Rankers is once again dragged through the mire of bigotry and shame. One minute.?…….doesn’t really stand up to years of far worse behaviour from you lot. How long did it take to sign a catholic???

In any case Quagmire, which is where i hope The Shame end up strangely, i would much rather talk about the football than the politics and am most keen to hear your thoughts on Sunday afternoon.

    May the best team win.

  4. Quagmire says:

Thing is Rhus, I know that there have been problems at Rangers in the past regarding poor crowd behavior, but I’m also balanced enough to know that some of your lot are no better. Rangers have had many catholics on their books throughout the years proceeding Mo Johnston, as far back as the sixties, Don Kitchenbrand was well known as an RC, but don’t let those media facts get in the way of a good story. it’s funny as well that when Rangers do sign catholics such as Neil McCann and Maurice Johnston, they are hounded for playing for us by supporters who claim to be the greatest in the world?? Songs about a Spanish RC, Nacho Nov dying in his sleep with a bullet from the IRA ring any bells with you? German RC, Jorg Albertz get’s his windows smashed by a Celtic fan after an old firm victory. See they all just slide off the tongue at a moments thought, so spare me the bull shit about your team being in some way above Rangers in the moral high ground. Last point before I move on to the football this weekend, when was the last Protestant on the Celtic Board of directors? FFS you rewarded your best ever manager, Jock stein, with a place selling the Celtic Pools!!! The bigotry at boardroom level in Celtic has always been under the surface for all to see. Your war criminal Chairman, John Reid (who by the way was learning MP’s the IRA song sheet not so many moons ago, thanks George Galloway, recently indulged in some sickening religious connotations, referring us to the ‘Holy Willes’ Catch a grip man.

Sunday afternoon, well it will be a tough test for Rangers no doubt. Already Hibs have taken three of Celtic and held us to a draw, so they show no fear when coming to Glasgow these days. They have a very talented side but they do blow hot and cold and in December, we spanked them at Easter Road when we were hitting top form in the league. So yes it will be a tough game, but one I expect Rangers to win as I always expect them to win at home domestically. I also think your striker, Fortune, will have certainly fired our boys up with his comments about us cracking under the pressure. As I said 8 points and a superior goal difference is a pressure I would welcome all day long.

Interesting that you view the all new improved Celtic as ‘vastly improved’. Three games played since the window closed, one defeat to Kilmarmock, 2-1 down to first division Dunfermline and finally a win over a Hearts team who are on their knees. I admire the optimism, but I wouldn’t be getting to misty eyed about Ra Sellick just yet.

Glad you spent a while working out your considered and educated response ‘Popes 11′

Still sore from the result today? From what I hear you were lucky to get a draw. Anyway keep up the intelligent posts, they certainly go a long way to re-inforcing stereotypes!

ps whose to blame for ceptics draw ,ref, linesman, ballboy, fourth official, media, establishment.bus driver, naw their f………..g defence or lack of it

  10. WeKnowSFA says:

Braafheid proves that there is something in the “heid” bit of the name.

You almost expect to see Mark McNally in the Celtic defence such is the similarity to the 90s.

  11. Popes11 says:

    Quag – I was stating a fact,
    you are a boring prick.

Jazrfc – You still on the LSD?
but yes, the defence let us down badly.

  12. Popes11 says:

One more thing boys, if you don’t beat Hibs the morra then our draw today means a point gained rather than two lost.

    CMON THE HIBEEES.

  13. quagmire says:

Sure about that popes11? Don’t you mean if Hibs beat us then it will be a point gained for Celtic? Draw means that it’s status quo.

That means the same P11, not the rock band.

    You interesting bawbag!

  14. Popes11 says:

    Yaaawwwnnn, Your up late.
If the ref stays neutral then Hibs will win by two clear goals, the unwashed are mince.

    Point gained.

  15. jazrfc says:

popes 11 , LSD does that mean lost to sorry dons lol . prize the buckie bottle away fae yer cold sores and try and smile the futures bright
