Celtic: McGeady to Villa looks on, Cuellar involved?

by WeKnowSFA

The rumour was sounding so plausible at first

WeKnowSFA - Celtic

It finally looks as though the wheels are starting to spin on the 2010 summer transfer window. The talk from down south is that Manchester City are bidding £20m + Stephen Ireland to wrestle James Milner away from the Midlands based club.

This is not a bad bit of business all things aside for everyone. Milner has made it clear that he sees his future away from Villa Park and Ireland has struggled to play for City under Roberto Mancini. As things got more troublesome for the former Irish internationalist, family members were worried about being killed off as Ireland searched for an exit route from the Eastlands.

This deal may see both clubs with players they want and Villa with the finances to move some other players in.

Which is where things get a bit interesting for viewers in Scotland.

Aiden McGeady may have been to Russia to speak to Spartak Moscow but there has always been a feeling that if a good offer came from Villa, the player would much prefer to go there. Dont know why….have you ever seen Birmingham?

Crikey, the salt mines are more enticing than some of the sights that city has to offer…anyways.

So, the talk of the town at the moment is £9m coming from Aston Villa for the Irish internationalist but the name of another player has also crept into the rumour.

At first, Shorey was the name being used as the makeweight in the deal and given Celtic’s need for a full-back, this would make sense.

However, and it’s likely to be a lot of mischief making late at night, the name of Carlos Cuellar has started to creep into the picture.

Perhaps Neil Lennon recalls Cuellar’s magnificent one handed stop from Shunsuke Nakamura a few years back as Celtic fired their way back into the title race at Parkhead. Saves of this calibre could put severe pressure on Lukas Zaluska in the Celtic goals and perhaps bring some stability that Celtic badly need at the back.

Or maybe its all just a rubbish big rumour but c’mon, its better than continually reading the names Bellamy and Keane isn’t it?

Why on earth would we sell a key player in Cuellar?

  • pablo

    deary me…….

    what can i say?

  • Anthony

Have seen Birmingham? Have you seen blumin Glasgow! It’s certainly a step up regards to location.

  • BrummieCroatianFifer

Cheeky git. Glesca is the scummiest place on the face of the planet. Brum and Brummies are evolved way in front of you scar faced dirt-bags…

  • Aero

No offense lads, but us Villa fans rate Cuellar higher than we would ever rate McGeady. Theres not a chance in hell we would let go of a world class defender like him. Real Madrid were interested in him and had the Spanish manager ever bothered his arse to look at Spanish players at smaller clubs in Europe, he would have been in the Spanish World Cup team too! Despite him not being in it now, hes relatively young for a defender, and he will be in it sooner than later… He wont be leaving.

  • Gazza

Hey, don’t slag off Birmingham. Have you been to Springburn? Its like a “rough” beruit :-)

Anyway, Cuellar was previously at Rangers so that will go down well. O’neil loves him so it won’t happen. A case of 2 + 2 = 5 again here.

  • scooter

    Yawn yawn yawn

Things must be slow on the football front

I wonder who Celtic will get in CL qualifiers this morning….oops

  • jose

having spent some time in glasgow one might be tempted to say “people in glass houses” etc both birmingham and glasgow are vibrant exiting and a times dirty, your stereotyping of our city shows little more imagination than this tired old rumour, on top of this mon would never use cuellar as a makeweight in this deal, he simply rates him higher than 10m

  • WeKnowSFA

(Semi) Apologies to all the Brummies, it was a little joke in part of an article which had a fairly ludicrous rumour at the centre of it!

The Brum has some nice bits…and it’s got some honking bits. A bit like the Weeg….

It’ll just be nice when all of these transfers are complete and we can get back to the proper task at hand….slagging Scousers….err wait, looking forward to the new football season.

  • Steve

Birmingham – the English Barcelona ( I read that somewhere once) Anyway theres some players MoNeil will sell and others he wont, Cueller is definite in the latter – Though I did think the same for Milner!! Good luck for next season

  • WeKnowSFA

Seeing as we’ve got the Villa fans attention, do you think there would be any truth in the £9m + Shorey element of the rumour, which was the first one to break?

Also, what are your hopes and ambitions for the season? Same again….or do you think you can push up a bit? It’s a tall order.

  • Andy Lochead in the Air

    WeKnowSFA,
I reckon the Shorey rumour has legs. He is has made it clear he is keen to stay in Prem rather than drop to Championship (where there has been interest). WBA/Fulham have been linked in past but as that has not be wrapped up straightaway I suspect he is holding out to see if a better offer. I think he is a decent player and would play well for you – he won’t get a game a Villa while Warnock is about.

All the best – no offence taken re. Brum, the Stephen Ireland line made me laugh so realised article was tongue in cheek.

btw, how is little Shaun doing? Was sorry it didn’t work out for him at VP.

  • WeKnowSFA

Cheers Andy, could be something in it then with regard Shorey and Celtic are in need of full backs.

Yes, it was a whimsical article, glad there’s some people on our wavelength…although this may not be a good thing :-)

As for Shaun, it’s a shame, so much potential but injuries and a lack of belief seem to hold him back. He rarely gets a run of games and has been poor in pre season and the games v Braga.

On top form, we think a 100% Maloney would be better than a 100% McGeady but it seems it’s impossible to get Dhaun anywhere near his top level.

Cheers, good luck for the season.

  • Looks like the Villa fans rate big Carlos, I wonder what they will think of Aiden McGeady after a year.

Celtic fans who do think will be Celtic’s top scorer this season:

    Samaras, Hooper, Fortune or Bellamy

  • JInksy

Birmingham it looks well scummy doesn’t it!!!! You’ve never been have you!!!!

  • Quagmire

Made me laugh anyway, although the though of big King Carlo’s in a Celtic strip would certainly make me sad.

I honestly don’t think McGeady will move to Moscow and it will go down to the wire if Villa sign him. If that happens and Bell-endamy hasn’t gone to his 17th Premiership club by then, he will sign for Celtic in a loan deal, probably sparking scenes similar to when Keane signed in January to win the league.

Let’s hope for the same outcome again eh!

  • KevinBhoy

Cuellar as a candidate for the Celtic No1 jersey after his ‘save’ from Naka did make me chuckle though.

  • cass

my god imagine the stick you’d get if you actually said something offensive! hooper for top scorer, MON to do his transfers in the last 2 days of the window as usual and cuellar the cheat to stay at villa thanks

  • With all the Brummies on the site, maybe they could cast some light on another rumour. Has anybody heard anything about the supposed swap deal between Celtic and Birmingham for Scot Brown and James McFadden.

  • MogwaiYT

The most ridiculous part of all of this is that clubs would consider paying £9million for a one trick pony who cant cross and has an awful shot.

He was terrible for much of last season and i never thought i’d see the McGeady-ometer creep back up towards those levels. If he is worth £9mil does this mean that Liam Lawrence is worth £12mil? The world is going mad.

The game needs more players who do the basics well. Not flashy neds with all the “street tricks” and no end product.

As for him going to Russia, if it does transpire, i give him 12 months tops. Learn to speak Russian? He can barely speak English.

  • JInksy

How many michelin star restaurants in Glasgow?
Glasgow has failed to gain a star for any of its top restaurants in the new Michelin Guide for the seventh year running…….Fucking shit hole that’s why…deep fried Mars bars & haggis…full of fat twats pissed on cheep Larger….

  • Billy Stark's Irish Jig

Cool your boots Jinksy. Next thing you’lll be telling us that “We’re considerably richer than yaw”.

  • JInksy

Billy Stark’s Irish Jig – That’s Black Country not Birmingham…But i would have to agree that we are also considerably richer, we have 3 michelin star restaurants (Manchester & Glasgow have none), have a bigger city, better night life, more parks, more canals than Venice, Better Football Teams yes even the Blue half (and they are shit), Don’t have as many druggies & pissheads either….In a nut shell Birmingham is like Heaven on earth compared to Glasgow.

  • JInksy

Oh and we also won the European Cup but we won it when there was Colour TV.

  • Oi up you brummies, heres a t-shirt in the Hearts section and their dislike of weegies will suit you to the ground. Cheers!

  • Billy Stark's Irish Jig

Been many gangsta shootings of late in the old Brum Jinksy?

  • JInksy

Billy Stark’s Irish Jig – Not that i’ve heard of…But lets get this right there are shootings in Rome, New York, Paris, London all great City’s & my argument is with the writer of the piece, he puts a remark on here that inter-mates Birmingham isn’t a very nice place when he clearly hasn’t ever been, Birmingham is a brilliant place full of great places to visit, amazing night life, awesome restaurants & fantastic sport & music events. So Fuck Him.

  • jinksy-are you kidding me? birmingham is now a centre of cultre is it? glasgow is a beautiful city with tough schemes surounding it-are you seriously trying to put your clubs on a par with celtic and even the other mob-gies peace ya mug-MON admitted days ago,if his wife hadnt taken ill he wouldnt have left celtic, with a name like jinksy youd think you knew about celtic-have a look at our record of trophies etc-celtic are a massive club with millions of fans worldwide-villa have no fans outside that cosmopolitan playground-haha called burmmingam haha

  • Judder

Inter-mates? Is that a new word?

  • JInksy

To you probably…. To the educated no

  • JInksy

joebhoy – You fucking Muppet…You compete in a 2 team mickey mouse league & still didn’t win it. Your trophy’s???? Your Fans?? Not one mention of your fucking shite team. You can have all the fucking blind Irish fans in the world but your team is shit & that is a fucking fact, you can’t compete with Villa thats why your best player wants to come and play for us…Well he’ll get on the bench and get 10min every now and then. And as for Glasgow being Beautiful is that in the same way Michelle Mcmanus is Beautiful?

  • Judder

    Don’t you mean “intimate”? Balloon.

  • JInksy

No i don’t mean “intimate”? Balloon.

  • Billy Stark's Irish Jig

    Jinksy,

Do you have a turnip head like Jasper Carrot?

  • Hej

“the problem with scotland is that it’s full of scots”

  • JInksy

Billy Stark’s Irish Jig – Yes i do ……I know the answer to my question – You fucking retard….now fuck off for a fried mars bar you fucking pauper.

  • Quagmire

Whilst I enjoy seeing the Celtic fans on here cop a bit of slack, what the fuck has Michelin Stars got to do with anything??

And by the way, Birmingham is a shit-hole…….FACT

  • Billy Stark's Irish Jig

Never ate or seen one in my entire life you rabid foaming at the mouth dog.

Stop thinking you live in the centre of the universe and take the editor’s original joke which he has denounced as a throwaway remark. Despite coming from Jasper’s neck of the woods, you obviously don’t share his sense of humour.

I’m sure Birmingham, like Glasgow and any other big city. has it’s equilibric measures of des resses and shiteholes.

Now, come off that high chair, clean up the mess and we’ll go for a pint in one of Glasgow’s many fine taverns and find the 2 shitties have much in common..

  • Looks Like Sky Sports have picked up on the McFadden to Celtic rumours that I mentioned at 9 this morning.

  • Tim Berrrr

    Faddy is coming to Celtic…………
    simple as that….

  • Tim Berrr… wouldn’t be to averse to McFadden at Celtic but I would be delighted if Scott Brown went in the other direction.

  • Jinksy your a prick.

  • Saveloy

yessss JInksy, you fat legend, get it right up the sweaties!

Bleedin’ liberty takers the lot of them – wouldn’t recognise a good piece of real estate if it came gift-wrapped.

You all out in your skirts this weekend boys?

  • WeKnowSFA

Just like to confirm that we ‘inter-mated’ nothing.

    Blame the schools?

  • neil j

come on jeramy kyle would be out of work if not for the nutters from glazgee

  • Judder

Inter-mating sounds like some sort of seedy dating service. I think Jinksy may need this as his communication skills leave a lot to be desired.

At least he’s not “inter”midated with his lot in life.

PS love the Bull Ring. And also Spaghetti Junction – all the tourist sites…

  • reasonandtruth

Jinksy, how sad it is that you start off trying to defend your lovely city, but then spoil it by using such language, I would imagine there are children who read these posts, so instead off defending your city you have left these youngsters with the impression that you are an immature uneducated dullard, this goes for both brummies and glasweigans, try to think about what you are typing. Both cities have made huge improvements in the last 25 years and both Celtic and aston villa are 2 great clubs full of history….please stop the racism, you only embarrass yourself….have a great weekend guys and good luck to Celtic and villa this season….Col……

  • Crowie

    Jinksy,

We compete in a 2 horse league?! Ehhh so does your team except the 2 horse league you compete in has 8 more teams.

  • celticandrangers
