Just in case you thought it may have been St Mirren’s Danny

Yes, having two Lennon’s as managers in the SPL may be a bit confusing at times but it is safe to say that if anyone said Lennon was the SPL manager of the month for September, most would know who won it.

So its congratulations to waistcoated up-and-coming boss Danny Lennon from St Mirr….hold on, congratulations to Neil Lennon for picking up the award.

With the international break occurring, September was a truncated month but with a 3-0 win over Hearts, a 2-1 win away against Kilmarnock and a 2-1 home win versus Hibs, Lennon boasts a 100% SPL record.

Mind you, Lennon can boast of a 100% SPL record since he took over on a temporary basis with 14 league wins in a row being a fantastic feat. Throw in a 6-0 victory of Inverness Caley in the League Cup and it is easy to see why Lenny was given the award.

Mind you, Walter Smith has also guided his team to six league wins this season, three this month, a thumping home victory in the League Cup…but also 4 points in the Champions League. The SPL are probably at pains to point out that European football is not part of their agenda so there was little to choose between the bosses.

With Smith picking up the award for August when both men shared a 100% record at the time as well, it is only right that Lennon is the recipient for September.

October though is the month where something will have to give. Celtic face Hamilton at home and then Dundee United away. Rangers are away to Hearts this weekend and then welcome Motherwell to Ibrox the following week. And of course, the game after that sees Celtic and Rangers clash at Celtic Park.

The manager who picks up the SPL manager of the month for October may well feel they have picked up something significant…but of course, the real silverware is what really matters.

Neil Lennon should take pride in receiving this award but the Lurgan man will know that the real prizes are not picked up on the 1st of October.
