Club back on the bottom, manager gone

The boos ringing around the Falkirk stadium at the end of the defeat to Kilmarnock was indicative of the Falkirk fan’s feelings and it appears that Eddie May has listened. The STV website is running with reports that May has resigned after the match which put Falkirk back at the bottom of the SPL.
Hamilton’s shock 2-0 win at Tannadice had a lot to do with it but there is no doubt that the match versus Killie was a massive game. One contrast may be seen in the dug-outs. Kilmarnock had the experience of Jimmy Calderwood in their dug-out with Falkirk having May and Steven Pressley, aided by Alex Smith, trying to steer clear of the relegation zone.
It may well be that the Falkirk fans that were wanting the head of John Hughes last season will have cause to regret their action. A semi-final, a cup final and eventual last day safety was a good achievement for Yogi and the form of Hibs has shown that he has something about him.
The appointment of May was a gamble, some say the cheap option but the manager certainly talked the talk but have rarely looked like walking the walk this season.
A couple of signings in the window like Colin Healy and Enoch Showunmi looked as though they could give Falkirk a chance but Killie and Hamilton have also strengthened their squad, cancelling out the boost to the squad at the Falkirk Stadium.
The Falkirk board must act quickly and find a man who can work with the squad that he has. The usual suspects such as Tommy McLean may be rolled out but it is hard to see names like George Burley or Csaba Laszlo being linked to this post.
The Falkirk board have a huge decision to make and for the Bairns fans, they need to get it right.
Who would you have as the new Falkirk manager?

Not sure they will have much of a decision. Alex Smith already there so he’ll probably take over until the summer. Then they’ll know if they’re hiring SPL or First Division manager.
With May resigning, it could be that the board are not completely distrusting of the current regime. And yes, Smith would be an extremely cheap option to keep on.
That said though, if Smith has been there all season, will he be able to make much of a change or have a fresh impact and provide impetus to the team.
Smith in full charge of Falkirk would be yet another member of the old guard back at the top stage of the game. Whats the thoughts on that? People happy or dismayed?

why not burley? he’s looking to put one over the scottish media… 4 month contract?
It could be a way to get back into the game and bring some money in, Burley would probably have to take a drop in expected wages though – however, as he is not in club management at the moment, that may not be the issue.
There is something about Burley that just doesn’t inspire confidence – Falkirk are in for a tough battle and they need an inspirational figure. For us, that is not Burley…
Actually the falkirk fans are out of order crikey they were wanting John Hughes out the door last season.
As Lou Reed sang “You’re going to reap just what you sow”
Mind you, Lou also sang “heroin, its my wife and its my life” so maybe he shouldn’t always be listened to?
