Hibs Hogg the headlines as they move on from Yogi era

Sticky start turned around to bring some cheer back to Leith

One of the most common lines in football is that a club experiences a lift in morale and fortunes once they part company with their manager. There is likely to be something in this due to ‘a change being as good as a rest’ which revitalises some players and perhaps even brings some players back into the fold after a spell on the sidelines.

Quite rightly, all the headlines will go to Chris Hogg, who was frozen out by Hughes since the end of August. With the armband back on, Hogg played a captains role to drag Hibs to their first league win since the first weekend of the season and their first triumph at Easter Road this campaign.

The win buys Hibs some time and moves them up the table but the search for a new manager continues. The win will do the hopes of caretaker boss Alistair Stevenson no harm but it seems unlikely he will be given the opportunity to lead the Leith side for the rest of the campaign.

The latest rumours mention Stevie Clarke, former assistant to Ruud Gullit, Jose Mourinho and Gianfranco Zola but perhaps it is time for Clarke to step out on his own. A rival (or potential partner) for Clarke comes in the shape of a man with assistant experience, Billy Stark.

Stark is currently in charge of the Scottish Under 21 squad but he served under Tommy Burns at Kilmarnock and Celtic.

A trip to Pittodrie is the name game for Hibs and with Aberdeen showing a level of inconsistency this season, a new man or Stevenson may feel as though they are capable of bringing back all three points to Edinburgh.

Should the caretaker stay on at Easter Road?
