Can Inverness Caley beat Aberdeen to get first home win of season?
Even a point would be an improvement
There is not a lot separating Inverness Caley and Aberdeen at the moment. After 6 games, both are on 7 points and both sides have a positive goal difference of 1. Aberdeen therefore sit higher in the table by virtue of having scored one more goal than their opponents.
9 compared to 8 is not a big difference but it is all there between the sides which could indicate the game on Saturday is likely to be a close one. Caley have yet to pick up a point at home this season, which may see a little nervousness in the play of the home side but Terry Butcher will be determined to resolve that issue this weekend.
Aberdeen have a mixed bag of results away from Pittodrie this season with their three games returning one win, one draw and one loss. Aberdeen’s solitary away win this season came on the second weekend of the season when a late Darren Mackie strike gave them all three points in Perth.
That was back when the Dandy Dons were riding high on the crest of a table-topping wave but the past few weeks have brought Mark McGhee’s side back to earth with a bump. The 3-2 reversal at the hands of bitter rivals Rangers will have been extremely hurtful and the players will need to lift themselves to bring the fans back on side.
Both teams will be desperate for a win, which in the right circumstances could see the victor move into 3rd place. The tightness of the league means a win or two could make a big difference to where a team is in the league but with another international break looming, 3 points would be a great morale booster.
Terry Butcher and Mark McGhee will have had numerous tussles as players and managers throughout the years and with both teams looking to grab all three points, tomorrow could be another tousy affair between them.
