Get ready for War!!!

If confidence, self-belief and determination wins trophies, there may well be green and white ribbons on trophies at the end of the 2010/11 Scottish season. We all know there is much more to it than that but the first press conference under Neil Lennon’s official reign left no one in any doubt that he believes he is the man for the job.

A desire to bring the thunder back to Celtic Park and ensure that the players are ready for war is no surprise from a player who has never backed down from any challenge.
8 league wins from 8 games is a highly commendable record, especially with a group of players who had struggled to pull together any consistency under Tony Mowbray up until that point. Wins at Tannadice, Easter Road, and Tynecastle, in addition to a home triumph over Rangers indicated a level of passion in the Celtic squad that had been sorely lacking until Lennon’s arrival.

Although the home match versus Hibs featured a low attendance, the noise and excitement generated in the final ten minutes when Celtic turned a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 victory is indicative of what Lennon is hoping to reproduce at Celtic Park this season.

The one blot on Lennon’s form-book during his interim spell at Celtic Park came in the Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Ross County. Many felt that defeat at Hampden that day would have ruled Lennon out of ever getting the job on a permanent basis and the Irishman was clearly hurting at the end of the game.

In an explosive post-match interview, Lennon made it very clear that many of the players didn’t deserve to be at Celtic Park. It remains to be seen who Lennon was referring to when he threatened the axe but there are no shortage of suggestions coming from the Celtic fans. Players definitely need to be shipped out in order to boost the transfer kitty but fans will be more excited about the influx of players to Celtic Park.

Newspapers have been abuzz with big name players from down South possibly coming to help the Lennon revolution with Sol Campbell, Jimmy Bullard and Joe Ledley all names in the frame to be wearing the hoops next season.

Some cynical punters may suggest these names were mentioned because of season book deadlines but there is no doubt that Celtic need new recruits and ones that are up for the fight. Neil Lennon wasn’t the first choice for many Celtic fans but now that he is in the hot-seat, the time has come for all Celtic fans to get fully behind their club as they prepare for the battle ahead.

Are you ready for war and ready to bring the thunder back?
