Makeshift Rangers just fall short

Defensive formation once again allowed Rangers to create

With the team they had out, it is not as Rangers could have expected much more but there will be huge disappointment amongst Rangers fans this morning.

Disappointment at not shutting out Manchester United for the second game in a row. Disappointment in not taking the chances that fell their way with Kenny Miller being the main culprit.

And disappointment at the fact the winning goal was scored by the player Rangers fans had been giving dogs abuse to all night. No, not John O’Shea but Wayne Rooney.

Rangers were extremely lucky to escape a strong penalty claim early on when makeshift full-back Steven Davis went careering through the back of Berbatov. These foreign refs are not all they are cracked up to be!

A goal then would have changed the complexion of the game but Rangers got a foothold in the match. The Ibrox side didn’t press forward too often but looked dangerous when they did.

Miller should have reacted better on the stroke of half-time when a pass looked the better option but the striker went for glory and wasted the chance.

The second half saw United step it up a gear but a Rooney header off the bar was probably the best chance they had. It was starting to look like another 0-0 until Naismith had a rush of blood to the head.

Or rather, he placed a boot in the face of Fabio and the ref had no option but to award a penalty. Rooney sent McGregor the wrong way and the relief for the England striker was evident.

With Valencia thrashing Bursaspor, Rangers participation in the Europa League was confirmed. European football after January was always the aim and third spot was always likely for Rangers, so in that regard, job done and congratulations.

With a game in Turkey remaining, Rangers have the opportunity to reach 8 points and the financial rewards that go with it.

  • Never seen the games due to my upcoming move but it looks like the Rangers fans heeded the warning for no sectarian or racist songs as there was no mention in the press this morning.

Funny how it’s Rangers who are yet again highlighted for this when these sectarian and offensive songs can be heard at Celtic, Hearts, Hibs & Aberdeen games.

    Good deflection Quags however….

It’s not funny at all, the SFA do not push the issue and neither do the media. Their agenda for that, who knows….

Who pushes it? Uefa. Rangers fans can jump in here and laugh “aye, the other teams are not in Europe long enough to get caught”, which would be witty…but not the full story.

The Billy Boys has been recognised as Uefa as a song that is not acceptable. Rangers have whitewashed it, they have asked their fans not to sing it – however, only on the basis that singing it will get the club into trouble…and not because the song is offensive and belongs to a byegone era.

It was sang at Ibrox last night and if the Uefa observer was paying attention, there could well be trouble for Rangers. There could also be trouble for Rangers for the substandard stewarding, the responsibility of the home team, to prevent a Man U fan from running onto the field of play. After all, as many fans desperately trying to get other clubs into trouble before have squealed, “what if he had a knife?”. Quite.

So…maybe the fact that Rangers fans were warned by Uefa not to sing it, a warning the club was only to happy to reiterate, was perhaps the reason why focus has been placed on Rangers?

Or you know…maybe it’s a conspiracy….as the words of another song go.

Thats right Uefa are just lying in wait for Rangers to sing the Billy Boy’s. More like the discredited journalist pointing it out and looking for an excuse to dig the Rangers support. As for the BB being sung last night, total pish. I was at the game and can assure you the only version of that song being sung was by the Man United fans, Rangers fans did not sing the song once.

How I wish we could go back to the days when you could sing what you wanted at football matches, tasteful, offensive or otherwise. singing a song never hurt anyone did it? Sadly the PC brigade has ruined football banter and it’s niow and ever ending cycle of they sung that, well they sing this, well thats anti Irish racism, well thats anti Protestant and anti British etc etc.

Fitba’s fucked on and off the field in Scotland, as for the wee clown that jumped the barrier last night, yes your right we may well get a fine for that but what can you do to stop it really? And I’m scared to say too much about him as he’s Irish and I might end up offending people!! LOL
