McGhee swears to get Aberdeen moving again

Tricky trip to Leith would cause bad language for any man

WeKnowSFA - Aberdeen

There were probably many Aberdeen men indulging in four letter words on Saturday afternoon but the one that caught the attention came well after the final whistle.

Aberdeen had salvaged a 1-1 draw away to Raith Rovers courtesy of a 95th minute equaliser but Mark McGhee was about to grab all the attention.

A radio interview was curtailed when McGhee decided he didn’t like the question he was being asked and the manager stormed off, uttering “F*** knows” in response.

What was surprising about McGhee’s outburst is that he is a media savvy person. He has written for Sunday broadsheets and comes across as more thoughtful in interviews than some managers.

It could well be that the pressure was getting to him on Saturday, after all, the chief reason for the dismissal of Jimmy Calderwood at Aberdeen was regular cupsets to small teams.

Then again, anyone in football that is intending to take the moral high ground about a bit of industrial language is clearly following the wrong game. It may also get some of the fans behind him, after all, a bit of passion is needed at times.

McGhee will no doubt be under the spotlight as his team travels to Easter Road to take on high flying Hibs. An away win would see Aberdeen leapfrog Hearts back into the top six if the Jambos do not win at Celtic Park.

However, Hibs know that if Hearts can win at Celtic Park (not out of the question), 3 home Easter Road points would see Hibs in second place with a game in hand over Celtic. That is a lot of motivation for the Leith side so it wont be easy for Aberdeen.

McGhee is one of Pittodrie’s favoured sons, a star of the early 80s Alex Ferguson side. For many, winning 3 league titles and breaking the Glasgow stranglehold was the highlight of that era, for others, it was the Cup Winners Cup triumph over Real Madrid in Gothenburg, back in 1983.

Gothenburg 83 features in WeKnowSFA’s Victory in Europe range, where all of the Scottish club’s trophy lifting successes are remembered and revered.

As the Cup Winners Cup is no more after it was melted down to be used as Sepp Blatter’s pen, McGhee won’t be able to win this trophy again but he is aiming for Aberdeen success.

Can McGhee guide the Dons to the Scottish Cup final?

Once McGhee get’s over the pain of being snubbed by Celtic, I’m sure he might do a standard job for the Sheep. Probably wait until their next league game against them is over before doing so.

  2. WeKnowSFA says:

That has been the case this season so far but in fairness to McGhee, he was in charge of Motherwell when they won 1-0 at Celtic Park in the game when most felt the league was finished in the 2007/08 season.
