Missed chances and slack defending punish Celtic again

Hoops can’t buy a home win

Not even the chance of going top of the table could lift Celtic from their Winter lethargy as the hoops were held at home for the third match in a row. In all honesty, Celtic dominated their Ayrshire opponents but with Killie taking one of their two chances, Celtic’s inability to take chances cost them again.

Killie knocked the ball about well at times but at other points, looked horrific with so many passes gliding aimlessly aim out of the park. Celtic were unable to take advantage of a performance that hasn’t matched some of Killie’s better moments of the season.

A lot of this is down to the fact that the Celtic team is packed full of players who lack the fight and spirit of their opponents, with Killie being the first to the majority of second balls.

Cammy Bell stood firm to the one way traffic in the first half but the biggest moment came with Celtic losing Gary Hooper through injury being replaced by Anthony Stokes. James Forrest looked like Celtic’s best chance of creating a goal but many of the opportunities fell to Niall McGinn eho was unable to get a goal.

As so many people expected, Celtic would be punished for their misses when Kilmarnock got it together to create their first shot on target with Connor Sammon slotting home. It was the only effort Killie got on target prior to injury time but when you take it, you can’t argue with the efficiency of that sort of ratio.

An atrocious miss by Darryl Murphy summed up his night and the striker is yet to perform well at Celtic Park. There is an argument that the player will have his uses for certain tricky away games but at Celtic Park when the team is supposed to attack with vigour and purpose, Murphy slows things down too much.

Celtic eventually got back on level terms when Thomas Rogne bundled a header home but there was to be no late winner for either side at the end of a game played in freezing conditions.

Willie Collum played his usual game at Celtic Park but if Celtic took even a quarter of their chances, they would have sewn up the match easily and early. It’s a massively worrying time for Neil Lennon and Celtic fans and you have to wonder if the rookie boss has it in him to get his team back firing on all cylinders again.

Aye take great offense to you implying i am of the other persausion . As you know i am an RE teacher in a roman catholic school. Go to mass every sunday and pray for poor lost souls like you and your celtic brethren

Great spelling of “I” – would it be glib to say “I blame the schools?”

  • Willie Collum

  • Willie Collum

maybe you would blame the schools you blame everything else

  • WeKnowSFA

Haha, that’s what you take from that article?

Celtic missed chance after chance and have only themselves to blame. Still…

  • Willie Collum

me i just blame septic they are pants

  • Willie Collum

well fcku me i dont believe it septic are to blame is it april fool or xmas

  • WeKnowSFA

The article blames Celtic for blowing their chances – failing to win 3 home games in a row is an indication of a team being, as you would say “pants”.
See Willie, opinions arent as far apart as you think…relax a little, it’s nearly Crimbles…the birth of that little fella you have on the cross hanging from your whistle.

    Serious question to the Celtic lads;

Is Lennon up to the task?

The evidence is beginning to become compelling that he is not. 6 points from 15 at Parkhead in the last five home matches. A comprehensive defeat from Rangers also at Parkhead, losses to Hearts and scrappy last minute winners at places like New Love Street.

He can’t blame the players anymore as they are all pretty much his now, he appears to be struggling against seasoned campaigners such as Butcher, Jeffries, Big Mixu and of course Walter. Had it not been for Rangers dropping needless points to ICT and Hibs, that gap may have been worse than the one at Watford.

Also losing Hoooper must be a blow, although not the greatest striker in the world, he has the same knack as Boyd had at Rangers, he scores goals and crucial ones at that. By all accounts Murphy or Stokes don’t sound like the answer for his absence. Does this mean a recall for Samaras?

Have all the tims gave up?

Look that way Quagmire, the season has that all to familiar look to it. Do you really think Neil has got what it takes to take wrestle the title from Smith’s hands? I don’t think he has.

The next 3 or 4 games are crucial, I think he is 2 or 3 games away from getting his books if these results continue.
He is a great guy but we need a manager, a proper experienced manager.
