Rangers to face Celtic in Scottish Cup 5th round
Easy stroll at Ibrox sets up next round mega clash
Rangers bounced back from their New Year defeat to Celtic by comprehensively trouncing Kilmarnock at Ibrox last night but the reward is another clash with their city rivals.
From the first whistle, Rangers displayed a far greater hunger than their Ayshire opponents and it was no surprise when Lee McCulloch opened the scoring with a great finish.
Kyle Lafferty pulled out an arguably better strike for the second goal and Rangers were on easy street. A lot of the Rangers pressing and tackling, particularly that on Alexei Eremenko, looked fairly robust but Kilmarnock had no answer to the combative style of Rangers play.
A second half penalty put a fair complexion on the score-line and allowed the small crowd to troop home soaked but happy with the evening’s work.
Rangers reward for defeating Kilmarnock 3-0 comes in the shape of a tie against Celtic. The match sees Rangers at home against their bitter rivals as they bid to get back to winning ways in the Scottish Cup. Their progress last season was thwarted by eventual winners Dundee United and Walter Smith will be keen to have his last match in charge of Rangers take place at Hampden.
Neil Lennon will also be desperate to get his hands on silverware this season. Celtic are currently at the top of the SPL so that will remain their prime concern but the Scottish Cup is always a tournament worth having. Celtic will also want to banish the memories of Hampden last April as quickly as possible.
As you can see, the 2-0 victory for Celtic over Berwick Rangers has seen the Glasgow side rewarded with a draw against the bigger Rangers in what is already the tie of the round.
The fifth round ties of the Scottish Cup are scheduled to take place the weekend of the 5th and 6th of February. Of course, by the time the BBC and Sky get their hands on the fixtures who knows when the games will actually be played…

Had a funny feeling this might be the draw today, no conspiracy just been a while since we met before the semi’s or final.
Great news for the TV companies and also the rest of the teams who will now fancy winning the cup with one of the big two set to depart.
i just hope that the tickets are set at a sensible level, although with them sharing the gate I doubt common sense will prevail and we will be looking at a minimum £35.
Not a chance will these ticket prices be set at anything lower Quags – both boards will view this is as a shootie-in to make money. It’ll sell out at full-price so no reason to drop the price.
Celtic fans were charged at least £38 last week, can’t see it being any less for the Cup game. Didn’t Celtic knock Rangers out of the cup and win the New Years game in Smiths last season first time round.
No Rangers beat Celtic in the league and cup Dub and still lost both!
PS – Heard Celtic are charging £40 for Parkhead in February, which will be adopted by Rangers for the last league encounter, old firm still lives.
Quags…. Celtic did win the New Year game in Smith’s last season.

Dubs.
Celtic won the New Year game in Smith’s last season but it was Smith and Rangers that knocked Celtic out of the Scottish Cup.
Semi-final stage with the game played at Celtic Park which was deemed a neutral venue that day. Rangers won two games against Celtic in a very short space of time with a 2-0 league win at Ibrox.
You may be thinking of the Cup final itself where Smith did come a cropper but it was Hearts who were victorious that day.
Sorry Dubs, misread your post, the two matches that I referred to were the ones posted by Ed.
Will Lennon be sitting in the main stand at Ibrox for this one then?
As things stand Quagmire yes – although Celtic are set to appeal.
If ban goes through after Celtic’s trip to Hamilton, Celtic play
1. Hibs (A)
2. Aberdeen (H)
3. Hearts (H)
4. Aberdeen (N) – League Cup semi
5. Rangers (A) – Scottish Cup 5th round
6. Dundee United (A)
The next game for Celtic would be Rangers at home in the League.
Thats some run of games, some real toughies there, Rangers run
1. Hamilton (H)
2. ICT (H)
3. Hearts (A)
4. Hibs (A)
5. Motherwell (N) Cup Semi
6. Hearts (H)
7. Motherwell (H)
8 Celtic (A)
Pressure starting to build, just hope we still have a squad of players to compete!!
Oops missed the Scottish Cup game against Celtic in there.
You always miss the unimportant ones Quags!
Could you not throw in Sporting Lisbon in there too? The first leg is between the Motherwell and Celtic games is it not?
If that is the case, Sporting Lisbon second leg will be the 11th game from now….that’s quite a run. If Miller is to leave, there really has to be a replacement brought in…but is it sensible to spend the £1m on Goodwillie or would two lesser players be better for the squad?
I dont have an answer to that, it’s the sort of question only hindsight can answer.
Hey scooter,
Any comment to make on last night’s mighty attendance at Owebrox?
