Yes, you read that headline right

Garfoth Town have announced that their manager is Paul Gascoigne…a move that very few people could have seen coming.

The club have a history of making publicity friendly decisions in the past, with the signing of Brazilian legend Socrates being one of the most notable ones. We’d be a bit concerned if that sort of thing was happening here.

Everyone that reads this site is entitled to their opinion on Gazza and the opinions vary, we all know the good and bad points of the man and his personality but is this what is best for him at the moment?

There could be an argument that a regular place in the buzz and banter of football environment may help him regain a grip on reality but the fact is the last thing most people heard of Gazza was during the Raul Moat stand-off.

We’re not going to dwell on that but turning up to the stand-off and subsequent radio interview was the sound of a man in need of help himself.

In one respect, Gazza was always an unlikely coach. If nothing else, skilful players often find it difficult to relay advice and instructions to other players who could never replicate their talent. Gazza could control and move the ball in a way that many players couldn’t even comprehend so even if he was a sensible bloke, you’d think he might struggle.

As it is…there is a hell of a job of ahead of him. As always, we wish him all the best but we do wonder if this is the best move for the man?

The fact that the league that Gosforth Town play in is sponsored by Evo-Stik is going to ensure that the funsters and punsters have a field day.

Good luck to him I say, his life has been blighted by inner demons and only football has played a positive part, perhaps it will again?

We did say in the article that the football environment may save him….but we still worry about the PR machine that may be behind this move.

Still…all the very best to Gazza.

Could be what he needs to have a focus on life although i reckon a lot of Gazzas problems are the company he keeps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
