Rangers to offload Miller to afford Goodwillie?

Transfer jigsaw pieces falling into place

WeKnowSFA - Glasgow Rangers

Even with nothing confirmed regarding ins and outs, it has been a busy day for all concerned at Ibrox. The morning started with Walter Smith complaining about the bank and for the need to be able to spend in January to reinforce his squad.

Better use of a summer budget in excess of £5m may have allowed the Rangers squad to be in stronger position at the moment but even this story has been eclipsed by the breaking transfer talk surrounding Rangers.

The first story breaking about movement in and out of Murray Park came with the BBC “understanding” that Dundee United had knocked back a bid of around £750,000 for David Goodwillie. This figure is far below what United value the player at but it does make you question Smith’s comments in the papers that morning.

Either the words of Smith struck a quick chord with the bank convincing them to unleash funds for strengthening of the Ibrox squad or Smith was once again toying with the media with his comments.

The bid for Goodwillie takes on a more serious light with the rumours that Rangers have accepted a bid for Kenny Miller from Birmingham City. This will be familiar to Rangers fans as the same club had a bid accepted for Kris Boyd a few years back.

The player had no intention of leaving at that time though and of course he had over a year left on his contract. The situation with Miller is different. Kenny Miller is out of contract at the end of the season and is reportedly keen on signing a contract that ensures his future over the next few years.

With 22 goals so far this season, Miller has been the key man for Rangers but the lessons of Kris Boyd running down his contract and offering little value in his final few months from last season may have been learned by Rangers.

It would not be a big surprise if Rangers offloaded Miller to Birmingham and then used whatever funds they receive and the saved wages to return to United and bid again for Goodwillie. Kenny Miller may decide against the move to Birmingham, much like Boyd did but there looks as though there will be a lot of action for Rangers fans this transfer window.

When you think this club cant get anymore ridiculous this happens, I have 3 thoughts:-

    1. £700k for a player who has scored 22x and could be the difference between winning and losing a league, would rather see him stay and go on a free in the summer

    2. Why not sell McGregor for serious money, least we have a replacement in Alexander?

    3. Goodwillie – Decent young player who will be ruined signing for us, we will play him at left back

Has taking 3 years for it to finally bite but we have today handed the league title to Celtic on a silver plate, thanks Sir David Murray, you have turned our clun into a laughing stock

Absolute joke, dont think ive ever been so angry with anything Rangers related

  • trueblue

ill believe it when i see it lets not get paranoid same as the mob over at the piggery

  • Rushnlusk

700k should be enough to get the burst pipes sorted, asbestos removed and get the smell out of the carpets. Good business. Can we get the Jumbo screens sorted too?

its a funny old game . i think there will be more twists and turns in january.and celt you were nearly selling that prollific striker samararse if he didnt score two goals last week but seemingly hes red hot i meen thats 2 goals this season

    Scooter/Jazmag

Our reserve team (cost 3.5million) beat your hammer throwers in your own midden; Laughatme cost as much as that squad!

We can sell Samaras because we dont need him; can you say the same of Permatan???

    Forget about any new players.
Forget about a league extension (Walters Myth: – “We need help!”)
Forget about the league this season!

Your colossal debt is the least of your worries; repairing the asbestos in your run down midden is your biggest problem.

No fixy! No safety certificate! No venue for games! Seemples!!!

Its great to be a tim!

Come on! Leave the dark side and join the Green Jedi!

Oh and BTW; next OF game…

    FREDDY’S GONNAE GET YE!

  • jazrfc

celt put the glue bag down . yous pay more wages than BAA you have won 2 trophies in 9 , 45 players you have used this season and your still buying ffs great management .
were at our worst weve ever been an extra time goal at tanadice stopped us getting a treble last season , the spl making us play 4 games in 8 days stopped us winning the league on our eufa cup final year .or it would have been 4 in a row at the end of this season .
as the song goes things will only get better and if it does for us the green japseyes will be jumping ship and there will be even more green seats at parkdeed than there has been over the last two seasons [ if possible lol ]
the futures bright the futures rangers .
    btw tell freddie no surrender

  • WeKnowSFA

Good to see you’re back on form with the quick-responses after a quiet week Jaz…

  • Scooter

£3.5Million for squad that won at ibrox??

    Samaras – £2.5m
Big Dud at back – £1.5m
    Kayal – £1.5m
    Wilson – £1m

    Wont go through the rest

All that and we are still champs, your mob must be total pish Celt

  • Scooter

    Oh and Freddie Ljunburg, FFS!!!

He was finished 3 years ago at West Ham

  • The accepted paltry bid and sale of Kenny is staggering and just goes to show, if we needed reminding, just who is running the show at Owebrox. Where would Rangers have been without his goals this season? He will now be sold on the provisio that Thomas Rogne pulls him out of his back pocket. And u think things are getting better jaz?

Samaras cost £1m, the ‘big dud’ at the back cost heehaw, Wilson cost £500k and you were almost right with Kayal who cost £1.2m. Your point caller?

  • jazrfc

billy my boy 1 question . whose the champions ?and wilson is the worst full back in the spl . kayal looks not bad , but ffs samararse 2 goals all season [16 games ] im glad your thinking your a good team .

  • Jiz, where did I state we were a good team? It doesn’t say much about your own mob when a stuttering team can convinvingly beat them at their own midden with Sammi getting his only 2 goals of the season and generally ripping Weiry and Bogie two new ones.

Wislon ain’t a great full-back by any means but at least Celtic aren’t going begging to the likes of Aberdeen and getting their fringe full-backs on loan! In case u hadn’t noticed, Wilson is far from being a 1st choice at right back.

‘Whose the champions’? Did a nursery pupil type that question in while you had your back turned to the PC?

  • jazrfc

    nursery pupils can spell wilson

  • richard keys

by eck jaz you shut um up there lad

  • Scooter

1 meaningful Old Firm win in 2 years, no trophies last season, 2 trophies in last 3 years, managers managed one big game win in 7, 20k fans turning up to home games

Imagine the gloating once you lot actually achieve something

Did St Mirren, Dundee Utd, Aberdeen, Hearts teams etc last year cost more than Celtic’s, just wondering?

  • Why all this focus on Lenny’s so-called ‘big games’ in charge? Aren’t all games very important in the league? Why not the same focus on uncle Watty’s Champs League record?

20k at home games??? Have u been standing at the turnstiles counting numbers?

Sure, lesser crowds turn up for certain cup games. All teams across Europe suffer from this, even yer mighty Gers.

Jiz, I’m sure yer da is bigger than mine anaw.

  • jazrfc

    hes maybe yer uncle

  • Dannybhoy

the more he speaks the less he says!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Quagmire

Back on the matter in hand, I agree with Scooters assessment in his original post, just when you think things can’t get any worse?

As a club we have been treading water for 3 years now, the achievements in this time are even more remarkable considering the constraints we have been working under. Meanwhile Strachan, Mowbray and Lennon have pretty much had a free hand to mould their own teams with varying different levels of success. I often wonder if Walters achievements are considerable or just average given the state Celtic have been in for the same period of time.

Yes Celtic have much to gloat about for now, one can only hope that this sorry saga is brought to a conclusion some time soon and the club changes hands to someone who has it’s best interests at heart.

The court case against the HMRC is apparently re-convening this week so it will be interesting to see what that outcome is, I suspect thats why the Whyte bid has stalled for the time being.
