Will Rangers be up to Pars in League Cup defence?
Can the Pars park the bus at Ibrox?

The League Cup is the lesser of the three domestic trophies the SPL clubs are involved in the battle for and at times, it can only be said to count as part of a treble triumph. Rangers didn’t manage to clinch the treble last season but their triumph in the League Cup final over St Mirren will be long remembered by those that witnessed it.
Being down to 9 men with the score still standing at 0-0, the smart money was on the Paisley side but they seemed to freeze and Rangers intelligence won out in the end. A breakaway move ended with Kenny Miller nodding home to provide a triumph that many considered unlikely in the moments building up to the winner.
The Rangers fans heading to Ibrox tonight will be looking to start their League Cup defence against 1st Division Dunfermline with no surprises.
In years gone by, Rangers would have played a majorly weakened team in this tie but the options for Walter Smith are slightly limited. That said though, you can expect a few changes in the Rangers line—up as some freshening of the legs appears.
Neil Alexander is said to be in line for a new contract at the Ibrox side and the back-up keeper can expect to be in the starting line-up for tonight’s clash. Alexander has proven himself to be a capable replacement goalie and he shouldn’t be in too much danger tonight.
Andy Webster is also said to be in line for a recall to allow Davie Weir to rest in preparation for this weekend’s trip to Pittodrie but the striking selection may be the one of most interest for the Ibrox faithful.
Kenny Miller is clearly the Rangers striker on fire at the moment but like Weir, he may be rested from the squad in preparation for other challenges ahead. With James Beattie still to score in Scotland and Nikica Jelavic illegible for the Champions League, it would make sense to see these two lead the line against Dunfermline Athletic.
In all likelihood, it should be a straightforward home win…then again, most people said that about last Tuesday at Old Trafford as well.
Do you fancy Rangers for a League Cup Hampden trip?

haha, ye think? the anti-rangers mhedia can swivel! the treble is on!
give us septic at the san giro in the quarter final please
Ladies and gentleman, even more proof that the theory that only Celtic fans are paranoid is total bunkum.
We would like to think that the majority of Rangers fans will be enjoying their 7-2 victory, 11 goals in two home games is a fantastic return and a great answer to the criticsm the defensive display at Old Trafford received.
lol total nonsense, coz i say there is a nationwaide agenda against my club, i am paranoid? lmao open yer eyes, take yer green specs off and LOOK, the anti-rangers bile is everywhere!
Every set of fans from every club will, at least one time, have a reason to think there is an agenda against their club. It’s part of the deal of being a fan.
There probably are journalists / websites that don’t like clubs and will slant their articles / editorials against that club. Some will be pro-Rangers, some will be anti-Rangers….just in the same way some will be pro-Celtic, some will be anti-Celtic.
Your comments do reek of paranoia though JJ – if your comments were made by a Celtic fan with the opinion of an anti-Celtic media – Rangers fans would be chortling with laughter at what they would call “paranoid timmy” – its a shame you cant see that.
Still, never mind…as we said, you’d think a fan of a team that won 7-2 in the cup would be happy…after all, you could be a Jambo.
