Rangers rebound to seal a great eight league wins

Next opponents Valencia are currently looking good though

At half-time, there would have been some murmurings and perhaps a touch of unhappiness at ibrox as Rangers were 1-0 down but the home fans could be forgiven for showing an air of confidence in their teams ability to bounce back. And so it proved with a blistering 20 minute period where 4 goals put Rangers back on top of the SPL.

With Alan McGregor suspended for this match and injury preventing Rangers calling upon Lee McCulloch and Nikica Jelavic, there may have been some concerns about the home team continuing their 100% SPL record. The starting line-up was still extremely strong, certainly more than enough to dispose of a Motherwell side that had a 100% away record in the SPL up to today but the bench is starting to show a lack of depth.

Adam, Foster, Webster, Wylde, Little, Loy and Hutton were the subs today and although the home fans will be delighted to see the fruits of Murray Park reaching the top team, it may be asking a lot to expect them turn games around if Rangers require an additional push to grab three points. With midweek Champions League, League Cup and SPL games to come in the next few weeks, it’s starting to look like Rangers busiest point of the season so far.

Of course, if Rangers manage to grab all three points at Celtic Park, their fans will be cheering another sort of 9 in a row…and a promise of a ten at home to Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Then again, the Highlands club are the last SPL away team to win at Ibrox…but let’s not get carried away with ourselves.

8 games (4 at home, 4 away), 22 goals scored and only 7 conceded is a pretty good start to the season by anyone’s standards. When you look behind the bare stats and add in there have been trips to Easter Road, Pittodrie and Tynecastle and two undefeated Champions League games, you can’t praise Rangers start to the season highly enough.

It may not take much to change the optimism that must be felt at Ibrox and Murray Park but if Rangers keep on rolling in the manner they have managed so far, there will be no complaints from the Ibrox faithful.

Huge week ahead, Valencia at home in the Champions League will take a lot out of the team and another great night is expected under the lights at Ibrox park.

Celtic at Parkhead will take car of itself, although I agree the squad is starting to look rather threadbare.

Rangers were pretty stagnant in the first half and lost a late goal to a well disciplined Motherwell team, who were not scared to get men in the box. Their 3rd position in the SPL tell’s you that their a decent side. Walter must have sent a rocket up their arse at half time as they were a different looking team, a blistering 20 minute spell saw Rangers blow Motherwell away, leaving them shell shocked. Weiss,Miller, Bougherra and Davis all played well but the MOTM again was Naismith. Not since his days at Kilmarnock has he enjoyed such a rich vein of form, long may it continue.

Lennon and Thomson were at the game today in the Directors box. One of my friends was sat right in front of them. They left at 75 minutes and rather bizarrely Lennon decided to applaud the Rangers fans in the section next to them as he left, much to the annoyance of the Bears. Would it not have served him better simply just to slip out and away?

That Neil Lennon eh…what a rascal!

To be honest Quags, without having seen it – we cant really comment. In one sense, yeah, he’d be best keeping his head down and not drawing attention to himself. Then again, how were the fans situated close to Lennon behaving? Who knows…but at least applause seems light-hearted, dread to think if Lennon reacted in the manner he sometimes did during his playing career to taunts from the crowd.

A lot of people have been giving Dundee sympathy this week but you wonder how Lennon feels about the sensitive souls in the Dens Park Derry who took great offence to his retaliatory abuse!

Valenica looked really good against Barcelona for a spell tonight although the majesty of Barca told in the end. The Valencia goal came from a swift breakaway – cant imagine there will be too many opportunities for them to score in that manner at Ibrox but the size of the task facing Rangers is a big one. Then again, with 4 points from 2 games, including three against the team expected to be the rival for the Europa League spot, Rangers should have a level of confidence for this midweek match.

We made a slight reference to the Rangers bench but as long as Rangers can keep the spine intact, they should still manage to keep rolling in the league.
