Smith Heart’s strike leaves his dad sad

Hibee fan won’t be proud of his boy

Any father would be proud of their son for making their first start in the SPL and to get a goal in that game should see them very happy. Football is a strange thing though and Gordon Smith of Hearts may find his relationship with his dad to be a little bit strained in the near future.

Smith fired Hearts 1-0 ahead in the Edinburgh derby with a fantastic strike. The youngster got over the ball and struck it low beyond Graeme Smith, the debutant for Hibs.

It was a day of firsts for the Smiths at Easter Road but the Hearts goalscorer explained the background to his family feuds.

“My dad’s side of the family are all Hearts fans. He’s the only one who’s a Hibs fan.”
“When I was younger, my auntie always used to take me to Hearts games because she’s a season-ticket holder and that just changed me.”

In recent years, Hearts have become synonymous with foreign imports so having a youngster that knows what these games are all about will have brought a further edge to the celebrations of the Hearts end.

Knowing that the strikers dad was a Hibee would only have added to the fun!

It wasn’t enough to secure victory for the Tynecastle men as Anthony Stokes scored an equaliser but Hearts fans will be happy with their current run of form.
