Strong team but weak attitude knocks Aberdeen out

Raith get their reward at Pittodrie

On Saturday afternoon Aberdeen fans and players celebrated their draw with Celtic as though they had won a cup. That was just as well because due to yet another Cup capitulation at the hands of lower league opposition, the Dandy Dons won’t be getting to Hampden this year.

Unless they get tickets to see Pink in concert that is.

Aberdeen boss Mark McGhee was insistent before the weekend that the Raith Rovers clash was the important one for the Dons but it just shows you that Aberdeen are not a top team anymore.

Yes, they can raise their game against Celtic and Rangers and give their fans something to cheer but when it comes time to mentally raise their game against supposedly weaker opposition, they regularly let their fans down.

Defeats against lower league opposition in the cup eventually saw Jimmy Calderwood out of a job so the Kilmarnock boss will see some irony in his new team still being in the tournament whilst Mark McGhee’s outfit are out on their backside.

It was Dundee who defeated Aberdeen in the League Cup and they would have been their opponents in the next round if they got through, which now means that there is an all First Division tie in the quarter finals.

Yet again, there will be a First Division side in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup.

The final place in the Scottish cup quarter finals will be decided on Wednesday night when St Mirren and Rangers replay at Ibrox.

Can Raith Rovers get to Hampden?

I simply don’t get it, how can Aberdeen play with such a heart and desire on Saturday (and many games against Rangers in the past as well) score four goals (ok it was against the leagues most generous defence) and create so much more than that? Yet can’t break down a first division side who are fourth bottom of their respective league? It’s basically cheating their own fans, which given the way I’ve seen them act at Ibrox in the last decade, I have little sympathy for anyway, but they’re not all that bad. Two of Raiths most influential players were missing, one in a car accident prior to the game and another injured very early on, yet they deservedly won a game in which Aberdeen didn’t create ONE significant chance??

Absolutely pathetic, yet funny at the same time!

oh the dandy dons what a shame . raith now want celtic in the future rounds home or away. if aberdeen played the old firm every week they would have a european place , be in finals of cups , league contenders . but the fact is they cheat thier fans by turning up for roughly 25 percent of thier games . but it makes me smile

Surely a shower of sheepy charlatans.

Davie McGurn was the keeper for the school-team of some of the WeKnowSFA team.

Good to see him keep a clean sheet and get a great win.

Definitely agreed with the Dons cheating their own fans, I know its probably against employment law but there should be club fines for players who can try so hard in one game and then do heehaw the next.
